Santa Clara, California
The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority runs 450 buses on 75 routes and 100 light rail vehicles on more than 42.2 miles of rail from Santa Clara, at the southern tip of the San Francisco Bay.
It provides transit to cities throughout the county, including San José, Palo Alto, Mountain View and Cupertino, and had nearly 40 million passenger rides in 2006. It is a multi-modal transportation planning agency—including pedestrian and biking interests—and has a Sustainability Program with goals for more fuel-efficient vehicles and transit-oriented development.
