Salem, Oregon
The City of Salem seeks to triple the share of bicycle trips among all transportation modes by 2015, thereby decreasing emissions from vehicles and enhancing air quality.
It will do so by improving infrastructure—removing deterrents, creating bicycle paths and connectors, and making all new arterial and collector streets with designated bike lanes. It also plans to increase bicycle safety—with signage, bicycle awareness courses and by providing safe access to schools. And finally, the city will increase municipal employees' bicycle use with direct incentives and by providing bicycles for use in agency business.
