According to the Trust for Public Land, of the ten most populous cities in the U.S., none has more green space than Houston, with 56,405 acres.

Its NeighborWoods public/private partnership to enhance its urban forest has planted more than 14,000 trees in the past three years. The Adopt-an-Esplanade program converts grass space into forest space, transforming vegetation that required mowing and watering into trees, which sequester carbon and reduce the urban heat island effect.
