The City of Mesa's utility customers can donate a dollar or more with their monthly bill payments to a program called "ABC: A Better Community." The Office of Human Services gives 100 percent of the ABC funds to nonprofit agencies for seniors, the disabled, at-risk youth, and low-income individuals or families—including homeless shelters, drug treatment facilities, the local Boys & Girls Club and the local United Food Bank. In the fiscal year 2007–2008, the City of Mesa donated $153,300 to the community through this program.
