Louisville's Partnership for a Green City is a collaborative effort between the Louisville-Jefferson County Metro Government, the University of Louisville and the Jefferson County School System to push Louisville toward a greener future. The collaborative effort is believed to have been the first of its kind in the country and has inspired partnerships in other cities in the state and region, including Cincinnati-Hamilton County, Ohio. The partners focus on climate change, energy, fleets, waste management, environmental education, environmental health and green purchasing, and have a committee team devoted to each of these objectives. The partners provide each other with service and professional expertise, save tax dollars and increase educational opportunities. As three of the largest institutions in the city and county, they are able to make a great difference together; combined, the three partners own more than 500 buildings, 7,000 vehicles and 25,000 acres of land, employ 26,000 people and have 120,000 students enrolled.
