Energy Production and Conservation

Energy in Henderson is provided by NV Energy, which has a long-term contract to obtain solar power from Nevada Solar One, the largest solar plant built anywhere in the world in the last 15 years. Nevada also ranks second in the lower 48 states for geothermal capacity, according to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Geothermal is among Henderson's top three sources of fuel for electricity.

Water Quality and Conservation

Southern Nevada averages a meager four inches of rainfall a year, so water is truly a precious resource in Henderson. The city has a Turf Conversion Program to xeriscape non-recreational green space by planting drought-resistant and desert-friendly plants and shrubs, thereby eliminating unnecessary watering. By July 2008 it had converted nearly 1.2 million square feet of city land, and it offers loans to residents of any income level who would like to make their own properties more water-efficient with the Turf Removal Loan Program.
