Water Quality and Conservation

The Metropolitan Water District provides water to city residents and businesses. In 2009, it will begin providing California-friendly landscaping training for residents free of charge. The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California also offers classes online, and includes training in native plant species, watering and fertilizing, and basic landscape design.

Recycling

The City of Fullerton does not have a curbside recycling program, but rather recycles materials through a system known as "murfing." Trash and recyclables are all sent to a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF—pronounced "murf") where they are separated and sent respectively to be recycled and to the landfill. Fullerton maintains that this is a way to ensure that no recyclable materials get thrown in the trash; by this method it diverts 60 percent of its waste from the landfill.
