The Fall River Energy Enterprise (FREE) was started by the city’s mayor in effort to green the city, redevelop the downtown area, make it a renewable-energy leader in the region, and reduce the city’s dependence on smog-producing fossil fuels. Plans include restoring the hydropower source, creating wharves for tidal energy platforms, selecting locations throughout the city for wind turbines and linking south-facing rooftops for a solar-powered energy network.
