In April 2009, the township of Edison established the Clara Barton–Amboy Avenue Neighborhood Home Loan Program to revitalize this particular historic neighborhood while improving housing conditions for residents who are unable to afford repairs. In a partnership with the community’s Provident Bank, the township will provide affordable home equity loans to eligible applicants to make substantial repairs—including plumbing, heating, roofs and weatherization—and thereby create job opportunities as well. The Clara Barton–Amboy Avenue neighborhood is a part of New Jersey’s Neighborhood Preservation Program, which has already established the Edison Farmer’s Market in the neighborhood.
