CityWiki Has Launched

Smarter Cities is pleased to announce the launch of our newest feature, CityWiki. CityWiki is a forum for the discussion of the criteria and methodology that will be used in evaluating U.S. cities in future versions of our research. Your knowledge and your perspective will be invaluable as we work together to shape a solid set of criteria and identify the best tools by which to gather the most useful information. We invite city officials, urban planners, members of academe and all of our readers to participate in the open conversation. To join, you need only set up a user account.

Throughout August and September we will continue to encourage the public development of Smarter Cities’ research plan. At the end of September, an advisory body will help prepare final drafts of the criteria and methodology, which will be used for the next research round of Smarter Cities. We will post the final versions of this year’s criteria and methodology to continue the discussion for the following year’s efforts.

Another ongoing wiki feature is the Cities to Watch section. These pages provide an opportunity for users to describe the sustainability efforts of cities of all sizes and in all countries. We hope they will be a showcase for initiatives and programs that are really making a difference, innovative laws and policies, and on-the-ground results. Those entries that meet the criteria for inclusion on the Smarter Cities main site will be republished there in edited and fact-checked forms.

We are excited to launch this new project and look forward to working with you.
